An October 9 article in the Federal Way Mirror reports that Federal Way and surrounding cities continue to have the highest number of COVID-19 cases in King County. In addition to higher overall cases as a percentage of population, positive test results in the Federal Way area are more than 10%, as opposed to an average of 2-3% in the county overall. Despite this, our area has seen the least amount of testing conducted.
To increase testing availability, a free drive-through and walk-up testing center is opening on October 13 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Drive in Federal Way. Testing will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Testing is free and open to anyone, regardless of insurance, citizenship status, or other factors.
Those with symptoms or who have been exposed to a person infected with COVID-19 are urged to get tested as soon as possible. Testing is also available for those without symptoms. The testing site is operated by King County Public Health officials, St. Francis Hospital staff, and South King Fire & Rescue EMTs/firefighters. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.
